Home Valley Station is open during the Kimberley dry season. This usually falls between May and October.

Road conditions can vary depending on when the road was last graded. Some sections will be worse than others, with corrugated sections and smoother sections. The best advice is to be prepared. Always have a couple of spare tyres, a large supply of water, and a satellite phone is also recommended.

If you are headed East, El Questro is the closest place to refuel from Home Valley Station. This is 49km away. If you are travelling west along the Gibb River Road, the closest place to refuel is Mt. Barnett Roadhouse, 280km drive from Home Valley.

There are a number of car hire companies that operate out of Kununurra Airport. A 4WD is essential to drive on the Gibb River Road.

We do recommend in most conditions that a 4WD is best, but you can reach out directly to the property for updates in conditions at homevalley@balanggarra.com.au.

Optus has recently installed a small cell unit on the property, which means that those who have mobile phones with Optus will have 3G coverage here on the property within an approximate 3km radius. Telstra has recently installed the tower with 4G coverage.

For WIFI, guests will still be able to purchase Roaming WIFI using their credit card from their mobile/tablet/laptop device (starts from $5 for 100 MB) or they can drive or walk to various lookout points (2km-4km away) and pick up Telstra reception on their mobile. Guests do need to keep in mind that signals can be intermittent as they can be affected by weather.

NB: Whilst there is now Optus and Telstra reception at Home Valley Station and its neighbouring stations – El Questro and Ellenbrae – for the majority of the Gibb River Road you will not have any network coverage and carrying a satellite phone is highly recommended.

Powered – Yes. We only have 20 powered sites, so bookings are essential.

Unpowered – No, pre-bookings are not required.

River Camp is about 4km from the Homestead and overlooks the Pentecost River – it known for incredible sunsets. It has both bathroom facilities and shelters. If you want to be close to the action then you can camp on the Homestead grounds where you are near Dusty’s Bar and Grill, entertainment, and the campfire.

Yes, we do have suitable accommodation and access for wheelchairs. Our Homestead Deluxe rooms have a king bed, air-conditioning and en-suite. Please ensure when booking you include this request to ensure we allocate accordingly. Our entire homestead is also surrounded by concrete pathways to allow easy access throughout.

No, there are no BBQ facilities at HVS. Campers need to be self-sufficient and bring their own cooking equipment. You can have fires in the designated fire pits. Campers are also welcome to dine at Dusty’s Bar and Grill for breakfast, lunch or dinner. (Pre-bookings for dinner are essential).

Home Valley Station has designated fire pits that guests are able to use. Guests are required to collect their own firewood, which can be done from around the Station, however no trees are to be cut down for this purpose.

The Gibb River Road is a challenging drive with roughly 16km of unsealed sections and two water crossings that sit between 300-500mm in depth, hence we recommend off road caravans and campers. You can bring your caravan with you should you wish, and we do have facilities available when you get here.

When the weather is warmer so the conditions are generally better in May or in Sept/Oct – Barramundi are more active/feed when the water temp is over 24 degrees.

Fishing at guests’ own leisure is done from river camp bank only, but there is no boat ramp onsite that is open to the general public due to safety regulations. This is to ensure the safety of our guests all times, as the Pentecost River is tidal, and inhabited by saltwater crocodiles.

There is a nice spot on the bank where Bindoola Creek mouth enters the Pentecost River and on the outgoing tide this is a prime spot to catch a Barramundi, Mulloway or Threadfin Salmon. The Pentecost is tidal and the Home Valley reception team are able to provide a copy of the tide charts on request.

Given the Pentecost River is inhabited by saltwater crocodiles, please ensure you are at least 4 metres from the bank at all times and don’t turn your back on the river.

We would advise making a booking but it is not always necessary except in the peak season.

Kununurra is the closest town to HVS, it is 120km east of Home Valley. This has a Coles supermarket, IGA supermarket, country Target, chemist, cafes, takeaways (Subway & Chicken Treat), pubs, bottle shops, banks, post office, hospital, medical centre, dentist, camping store etc.

Yes. The laundry at HVS is located at the station campground. There are four coin-operated washing machines that take 7x $1 coins. Laundry detergent can be purchased from reception ($3 per bag). There are no dryers but they are really not needed – 30 minutes on the clothes lines and your washing is dry. BYO pegs recommended.

No eftpos machine. Can take cards but should bring some cash just in case.

Dogs are permitted in the campgrounds only and must remain on a leash at all times. It is the responsibility of the owners to ensure that other guests are not disturbed by their animals. No domestic animals are permitted in the pool area or Dusty’s Bar and Grill. There is a fee for dogs.

You can bring a generator, but these are only to be used at the River Camp and must be turned off between 8pm and 8am.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any 4WD tracks that are open to the public on our property, therefore unless the vehicles are road registered there probably will be no use for them.
